Police officials said Hafiz Zubair Ahmed Sharodi aged 29 and son of former MPA and central leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Hafiz Hussain Ahmed Sharodi was shot dead on Abdul Sattar Road when he was going to Masjid Al-Habib along with his nephew to lead Isha and Travekh prayers. He got seriously injured and was taken to nearby civil hospital where he died .
Eyewitnesses said the attackers were standing near the mosque and escaped from the scene on a motorbike after opening indiscriminate fire on Hafiz Sahib. Police say investigations were underway to unearth real motive behind the murder but it would be premature to declare it as sectarian killing. As the news of killing of Hafiz Zubair spread, a large number of JUI activists reached hospital and staged a protest on this heinous crime.
